Emergency dentistry: what you need to know.

Dental emergencies can happen out of nowhere, and the pain and worry that come with them are real. Knowing when to seek urgent dental care is the first step to protecting your tooth and your health. When in doubt, call or text our office right away and we’ll help you decide what to do next.

What we treat

Emergencies we handle every day.

Severe toothache or infection

A throbbing tooth, lingering sensitivity, or swelling in the face or gums can signal an infection (an abscess). We find the cause and relieve the pain fast.

Knocked-out or loosened tooth

A tooth knocked out or loosened by an injury can often be saved if you act quickly — so call or text right away and bring the tooth with you.

Cracked tooth or lost filling

A cracked or broken tooth, or a filling or crown (a cap) that has come out, leaves the tooth exposed. We repair it and protect what’s left.

Signs it’s an emergency

Severe tooth pain or sensitivity

Pain that won’t ease, or sharp sensitivity to hot, cold, or pressure.

Knocked-out or loosened tooth

A tooth knocked out or left loose after a fall or a blow to the mouth.

Cracked, broken, or chipped tooth

Visible damage to a tooth, whether or not it’s painful right now.

Lost filling or crown

A filling or crown that has fallen out, leaving the tooth unprotected.

Swelling in the face or gums

Swelling is often a sign of infection that needs prompt care.

Bleeding or injury to the mouth or jaw

Bleeding that won’t stop, or trauma to the mouth or jaw.

Good to know

Emergency dentistry questions.

How quickly can I be seen for a dental emergency?

We keep time open for true dental emergencies and aim to see you the same day. Call or text our office right away and we’ll find you the soonest possible visit.

What should I do in a dental emergency?

Stay calm and call or text our office so we can guide you. If a tooth is knocked out, keep it moist in milk or saliva and avoid touching the root. Use a cold compress for swelling or facial injuries, control bleeding with firm pressure from clean gauze, and take an over-the-counter pain reliever if it’s safe for you.

Is emergency dental care affordable?

Yes. We relieve your pain first, then walk through your treatment options together. Most major insurance is accepted and monthly payment plans are available — we review what works for you at your visit.

When should I go to the ER instead of an emergency dentist?

Go to the emergency room or call 911 for life-threatening problems like trouble breathing or swallowing, bleeding that won’t stop, or a serious facial fracture. For most tooth problems, a dentist is faster and better equipped to help.

What happens if I wait to see an emergency dentist?

Waiting can let a small problem turn serious — an infection can spread, the pain can intensify, and a tooth that could have been saved may not be. Getting care quickly protects both your health and your natural teeth.

Are weekend appointments available?

Dental emergencies don’t keep office hours. Calling or texting is the fastest way to find out how soon we can see you for an urgent problem.
